Welcome to the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association! APA Florida is the place to exchange ideas and become engaged in the decision-making processes that will set the direction of planning in Florida for years to come.

I encourage you to browse our website to learn more about planning and the activities of our state chapter. You can also learn more about the activities going on with your local chapter.

While you are here, visit the conference page and learn more about our 2010 Annual Conference, which is September 14-17, 2010 in downtown Tampa. This year’s conference theme, “Building Blocks for a New Economy,” focuses on how planners will play a central role in shaping the future of our economy through new and sustainable planning techniques. Over fifty sessions and eight mobile workshops are being offered at the conference.

We have reserved a block of rooms for students (block name is FAPA Conference-Students) at the Residence Inn at 101 Tyler Street in Tampa. The room rate is $99/night and comes with a complimentary breakfast. The hotel’s number is 813-221-4224 and reservations must be made by August 24th.

Students who register for the conference receive a reduced registration fee and are eligible to participate in a limited volunteer rebate program. Please contact the Chapter Office if you are interested in volunteering.

I look forward to meeting you in Tampa at the Annual Conference, and interacting with you and your classmates throughout the upcoming academic year as your Student Representative. If you have any questions about APA Florida, our activities, or how to become involved, please contact me at jkain@ufl.edu.
