NEW APA Florida LISTSERVE – SIGN UP NOW!

In this ever faster changing world of information technology, we at APA Florida want to provide you with the instant opportunity to exchange information, research issues, ask questions, find solutions and generally just tap into all APA Florida members’ expertise with the click of an e-mail. For this purpose we have established a listserv, where you can do all of that, for free. We hope everyone will sign up and make extensive use of the resources that this communication tool can provide.

Below are some simple instructions on how to join and be active in the listserv. A moderator will watch over the listserv to make sure all messages stay on topic. Please always use polite language and remember… writing in all CAPS is like shouting.

To join the listserv: only members of the listserv can post messages to it. So, in order to participate, you’ll need to join the listserv. To do this, all you have to do is send an email to floridaapa-request@floridaplanning.org. Plain text emails work best. You can leave the subject line blank. In the body of the email, write the following:

Join floridaapa@floridaplanning.org [Enter your email address here] << don’t use brackets around your email address, that’s just a notation for you. ;-)

This will make YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS a member of the APA Florida listserv. You will use this email address to send and receive message to/from the listserv.

To join the Digest version of the listserv: if you are not familiar with listservs, some background for you: a listserv is a simple group communication tool. You send an email to one address and multiple people receive it. When you respond to a post, your response goes back out to everyone. So whether or not you are actively participating in a discussion thread, you will receive all of the emails as the other users send them to the listserv. Alternatively, you can sign up for the digest version of the listserv. A Digest Listserv will only send to you once per day and contains all of the posts made to the listserv that day.

To join the digest version of the listserv, send an email to floridaapa-digest-request@floridaplanning.org. Plain text emails work best. You can leave the subject line blank. In the body of the email, write the following:

join floridaapa-digest@floridaplanning.org [Enter your email address here]

To post a message to the listserv: simply send an email to floridaapa@floridaplanning.org. Plain text emails work best and will have the least amount of trouble getting snagged by other user’s spam filter(s). You can add attachments to the emails if you would like, but please keep the size down to a reasonable level. Sending very large files can bog down other user’s inbox, even if they have a fast Internet connection. Any response will also automatically go to all members of the listserv. If you would like responses go to your e-mail only, please note that in the body of your message and provide your e-mail.

To leave the listserv: you can remove yourself as a listserv recipient at any time you wish. To do this, all you have to do is send an email to floridaapa-request@floridaplanning.org. Plain text emails work best. You can leave the subject line blank. In the body of the email, write the following:

leave floridaapa@floridaplanning.org [Enter your email address here]

OR, if you are on the digest version of the listserv, you will need to:

send an email to floridaapa-digest-request@floridaplanning.org. Plain text emails work best. You can leave the subject line blank. In the body of the email, write the following:

leave floridaapa-digest@floridaplanning.org [Enter your email address here]

IMPORTANT Note for Listserv Users:
If you set up an auto reply message on your email (i.e. if you go on vacation), make sure to set up your auto reply so that it only goes to a sender ONCE. If you do not do this, your auto reply will go to every listserv user every time a new post is made to the listserv. Not only will you inspire jealousy in your fellow listserv users because they have to work while you’re on vacation, but you will also annoyingly add to their inbox. Please take heed of this note.

This listserv will run for a trial period of six months after which we will evaluate its success and make a decision whether to continue to provide this service.

Finally, special thanks to Julia Shewchuk, APA Florida Treasure Coast Section Chair, for researching this initiative and volunteering to serve as the Listserve Moderator.
